This page explains how we research, compare and update the guides on nearme.sg, and how to tell us when something is wrong.
How we pick what to include
- We start from what readers need to decide. For a product guide, that’s the specs that matter for Singapore homes and the price. For a service, it’s the official rules, fees and contact routes. For a money topic, it’s the costs, terms and conditions.
- We use stated criteria in new and updated guides. Where one of these guides lists picks or options, it says what we looked at, for example price, a key spec, warranty or published official figures. A “How we chose” section is being added to our list guides as we update them.
- How affiliate links affect picks. Most of our product guides list items sold on Shopee, because we can check their listed price and availability there and because we can earn affiliate commission on them. So whether a product is on Shopee, and whether we can link to it, affects which products we list. An option that isn’t on Shopee can still be listed. No brand or seller pays us to be included or ranked. The only money we get from these links is the affiliate commission described below, and brands don’t review our guides before they’re published.
- Unless a guide says otherwise, we haven’t tested the products ourselves. Product picks are based on published specs, official product pages, listed prices and, where a guide says so, buyer reviews on Shopee. We don’t claim hands-on testing we haven’t done.
How we compare
In new and updated guides:
- We aim to compare like with like, using the same criteria for each option, and we say when information isn’t published.
- Where we show figures in a table, such as prices, specs or driving test pass rates, we name the source and the date or data period under the table.
- We present official figures as published. Where we round or summarise, we say so.
- When a list follows an official source’s order (for example, alphabetical), we say so, and we don’t present it as our ranking.
The sources we use
We prefer primary sources, and new and updated guides link them:
- Singapore Police Force (SPF) Traffic Police: driving tests, passing rates, private driving instructors, demerit points.
- Land Transport Authority (LTA), including OneMotoring: vehicle ownership, licences and motor insurance rules.
- Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS): financial regulation, and checking whether a firm is regulated.
- General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA): consumer guides on motor, travel and other general insurance.
- National Environment Agency (NEA): haze and air quality.
- Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS): stamp duties and tax.
- Other official sources where a topic needs them, such as HDB, URA, CPF Board and the Singapore Statutes Online.
- Official brand, shop, insurer and service pages: specs, prices, policy wordings, fees and terms.
We use news reports and other secondary sources mainly to point to something we can’t get first-hand, and we name them when we do.
How we update
- We’re adding a “Checked” date to guides as we recheck them, for example “Checked 18 Oct 2026”.
- We change a guide’s “Checked” date only when we’ve actually rechecked the content, and we don’t refresh dates across the site to make pages look new.
- When we update a guide for a newly published official figure, such as a new data period, we update the figures and the source line together.
- Prices on Shopee and other shops can change at any time, so check the current price, seller and terms before you buy.
How we use AI tools
We use AI tools to help research and draft guides. For new and updated guides, we check facts and figures against the sources we link before we publish.
Affiliate links
- nearme.sg is funded by affiliate links: the Shopee Affiliate Program (Singapore), and SingSaver links for some credit card and insurance products, which we join through Creatory, the MoneyHero Group’s affiliate platform. If you buy or apply through them, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We don’t have affiliate links for investment platforms, brokers or robo-advisers.
- Affiliate links carry
rel="sponsored nofollow", and posts with affiliate links start with a short note saying so. - Read the full affiliate disclosure.
Health topics: costs and published facts only
On health and medical topics, such as treatments, procedures or clinics, we cover costs and how pricing works: published price ranges, what is usually included, and the date we checked. Our rule is not to recommend treatments, clinics, medicines or products for your health, and not to make claims about what they will do for you. For health and beauty products, we list only what the maker or seller publishes, such as ingredients, specs and price. Some older health and beauty guides were written before this policy. We’ve rewritten the main ones and are working through the rest. If you find one that doesn’t follow this rule, tell us. Speak to a doctor or qualified professional about your own situation.
Finance and insurance: neutral comparison only
On credit cards, loans, insurance, property and investing, our rule is to give neutral, factual comparisons based on published terms and official sources. We don’t recommend or rank products, or call one “best”, because we don’t know your circumstances. For life insurance and investment products, we only set out published features, fees and terms side by side. Some older posts still use “best” in titles or text. We’re rewording them, and if you find one we’ve missed, tell us. We aren’t a licensed financial adviser and we don’t arrange insurance. We don’t take applications, and we don’t ask for your financial details. Read the provider’s terms and product documents before applying, and speak to a licensed adviser if you need advice.
General information only
Everything on nearme.sg is general information. It isn’t financial, legal, insurance, tax or medical advice, and it doesn’t take your personal circumstances into account.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake or something out of date, email contactus@nearme.sg or use our contact page. Tell us which page and what’s wrong, with a link to the source if you have one. We check each correction against the source, and if we confirm something is wrong, we fix the guide and update its “Checked” date.
FAQs
Do brands pay to be featured?
No. No brand or seller pays us to be included or ranked, and brands don’t see our guides before they’re published. We earn affiliate commission when you buy or apply through some links, as explained in our affiliate disclosure.
Do you test the products you list?
Unless a guide says otherwise, no. Our picks are based on published specs, official product pages, listed prices and, where a guide says so, buyer reviews on Shopee.
How do I know when a guide was last checked?
Guides we’ve rechecked show a “Checked” date, and in new and updated guides, tables of figures show their source and data period. We’re adding these to older guides as we review them.
Can you recommend an insurance plan or credit card for me?
No. We compare published terms in general, but we can’t recommend a product for your situation. A licensed adviser can.
How do I report an error?
Email contactus@nearme.sg or use our contact page.
